Two Line Review: This Is 40 (2012)

With a great cast, this latest film from the steadfast Apatow looked sure for success. However, characters incessantly whining in a movie with little story take away any possible enjoyment here.

Two Line Review: The Way Way Back (2013)

A well acted coming of age story that felt surprisingly believable. While there are no laugh out loud moments, the wry sense of humour and relatable characters makes a very enjoyable piece.

Two Line Review: The Place Beyond The Pines (2012)

A captivating tale told in an effective manner, the beginning segment felt a little rushed, despite this, it is a gripping drama of fathers and sons, with amazing performances from the entire cast.

Two Line Review: Johnny English (2003)

This is a weak parody of the spy genre that has more cringe moments than humour. With a basic storyline, gags you can coming a mile off and exaggerated performances, this is one to miss.

Public Opinion: 5.9/10
Critics Opinion: 3.3/10

Two Line Review: Jurassic Park 3D (2013)

Upping the original version, much of the 3D was actually reasonably effective. Whether it is the addition of the 3D element or, more than likely, the IMAX setting, it should not be missed!

Thinking Film Rating: 8.5/10

Public Opinion: 8/10

Two Line Review: The Mist (2007)

An intelligent horror flick that is more about the monster within than the monsters outside. While the SFX may be a little dated, the ideas and themes are not, as it builds up to a truly horrible end.

The Mist - Frank Darabont

Two Line Review: Wedding Crashers (2005)

A promising opening leads way to a below average rom-com that seems to rely on the highlight of the Vaughn/Owen chemistry alone. A disappointing feature from a usually high-quality line up.

Two Line Review: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

The 'why-did-they-remake-this-already' feeling never really goes away during this the viewing of this film. Great performance from Garfield and the SFX are a little better, but it tries too hard to be 'epic'.

The Amazing Spider-Man - Marc Webb

Two Line Review: Grabbers (2012)

A boozy-Irish charmer full of wit, light-weight aliens and questionable home-brew. Wright and Lehane have created a fantastic low-budget horror comedy. Best watched drunk!

Two Line Review: The Heat (2013)

A standard premise (the old good cop, bad cop routine) delivers a very standard comedy. Relying on McCarthy's charisma and slapstick humour, the film feels repetitive after the first half-hour.

UK Buzz to Box Office: 2 - 4 August

Welcome to the UK Buzz to Box Office Comparison chart!
Taking the eight most talked about films of the week, this table compares these film's share of online buzz in the week leading up to the target weekend, to the takings of the same eight at the box office.

1. The Smurfs                  +14%

2. Despicable Me 2          +5%

3. The Conjuring             +2%

4. The Wolverine             +1%

5. Monsters University     +1%

6. Pacific Rim                   -6%

7. Fast and Furious 6        -8%

8. The World's End          -11%

Conclusions
Smurfs 2 leads the table, with a sharp increase of 14%, which could be due to the young target audience, who would not be adding to the online voice. Despicable Me 2 who came in second with an increase of 5%, likely due to their similar reasons.
At the other end of the table, Fast and Furious 6 is still generating buzz but as it has left virtually all cinemas, did not generate much at the box office.

Two Line Review: Holy Motors (2012)

An intriguing film from Carax that never quite fulfils it's enigmatic premise. The lack of explanation forces the film to waver to and fro between thought-provoking and pretentious.
